I keep my blog rather compartmentalized and focus on the pretty things in life rather than my personal life. However, in honor of love day, I want to share about a cause close to my heart. Outside of the blog, I work full time as a high school English teacher. For the past few weeks, my freshman classes have been reading Night by Elie Wiesel. In learning about the Holocaust, we've also been discussing bystander apathy -- its affects on a micro daily level, through systemic discrimination, and during genocide. Last Friday, students discussed the diffusion of responsibility in society, and in each class, a table group would bring up human trafficking as an example. Sometimes taking action against human trafficking is overwhelming. But as with anything, I try to use the resources around me and work within my power of control, by educating myself and others. I'm also inspired by a local organization in my city called REST (Real Escape from the Sex Trade) that provides refuge and counsel for victims of sex trafficking.
Recently, the International Princess Project reached out to me about Punjammies, clothing created by women in India who have been freed from sex-slavery. These are easily the most beautiful PJ pants I've ever owned with their ornate pattern, billowy material, and side pockets! I love that Punjammies promotes a positive cause through clothing.
"Our love changes the world."
Beyond daily acts of kindness, love for strangers is social justice. Spread love this Valentine's Day and everyday.
