This is the second post of our Iceland trip (the first was about Thingvellir National Park), and it's on the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa. I totally recommend spending at least half a day at the Blue Lagoon! It's beautiful, relaxing, and unique as an experience. If you're thinking about a trip to the Blue Lagoon, below are some details and tips.
How to Get There:
The Blue Lagoon is about a 50-minute drive from Reykjavik. There are plenty of tour busses that can take you there. We rented a car for our time in Iceland, since we planned to drive around, and the drive is straightforward and scenic.
What to Know:
Necessities: iPhone underwater case, sunglasses, swimsuit (you could rent it there, but... just bring your own).
Treatments:
Top: There are many spa and massage treatments you could pre-book at the Blue Lagoon. Email them way ahead of time to ensure a reservation, because they book up fast. Husband and I got 60-minute in-water relaxing massages -- they were heavenly!
Bottom: In a portion of the Blue Lagoon, you can get scoops of silica mud, which you can apply to your skin for a deep clean and exfoliation. Be careful to not get it in your eyes -- Husband got some in his and they got irritated and swelled up.
If you have any additional questions, let me know if the comments below! You can also check out the rest of our Europe + Iceland trip.

What to Know:
- The price of Standard tickets range from 35-45 euros (during summer season) -- including parking.
- We went with Premium tickets, which come with a free drink at the in-water bar, flip-flops, and skincare package, and use of towel and robe. Since we didn't pack those things and planned on lounging at the Blue Lagoon for hours, we went with that option.
- There is a luggage-storage room if you need.
- The shower/locker room is clean and modern. Your entry bracelet digitally secures the locker. The water is rich in silicate minerals, so in the shower, take like 10 pumps of conditioner (provided) and coat your hair before heading in, otherwise it'll get so nappy!
- The water is about 100 °F, so stay hydrated and drink lots of water.

Starting to get ideas for my hubby and I's first Europe trip (someday), these posts are awesome! If you could pick 3-4 places, where would you choose? We will probably be strapped for time. : / XO - Alexandra
ReplyDeleteSimply Alexandra: My Favorite Things
Hi Alexandra! For the first time to Europe, I'd recommend places like Paris, France - Barcelona, Spain - a city in Italy (Rome, Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre are a few picks) - and Santorini, Greece. On my Travel Page I have more posts about each of those locations if that helps you with the decision making! Have fun planning the trip! :)

Iceland is definitely on my 'Places to Visit' list and this has made me want to go even more! I've had a brief look at hotels, but have no idea where to start planning a trip to Iceland - whereabouts did you stay? :) x
ReplyDeleteCharlotte's Road
Hi Charlotte! There's only one hotel around Blue Lagoon and it was fully booked when I went. They're in the process of building a bigger one this year. I stayed in Reykjavik at an Airbnb and loved the experience!
DeleteThis looks absolutely HEAVENLY! Thanks for all the tips! The Blue Lagoon has been on my list for awhile, so definitely helpful to read about your experience.

Hi Mercedes! The mask deep cleans and exfoliates so my skin felt clean but dry after. I did the mask when we were about to leave, so I was able to apply moisturizer on my face, which felt really good.
DeleteThe place looks amazing!! I'm always curious on what to see in Iceland :)

Oh my goodness. I went to Iceland 4yrs ago and loved it. We went to the lagoon on our way back to the airport. It was the perfect end to an amazing long wknd trip. We only took 4days there but made the most of it. We went in February so the experience was different. My favorite activity, the Glacier Hike. Really breathtaking. Whatever the case, I just love your photos.
