One of the best things about living in Washington is being surrounded by gorgeous mountains and waters. Retreating into nature is a surefire way for me to feel refreshed and centered. Though as beautiful as it is to be immersed in nature, my husband and I prefer to "glamp" over camp haha. We found the cutest, remote cabin on Herron Island in Washington on Glamping Hub, which is a property rental site that specializes in accommodations like tree houses, safari tents, and camper vans -- so cool, right?!
How to Get to Herron Island, WA
I've lived in Washington for the better part of my adult life, and I'd never heard of Herron Island. Turns out, it's a small island a little over an hour outside of Seattle, and the only way to get there is by the Herron Island ferry, which transports like ten cars at a time. Make sure you check the ferry schedule as it doesn't run frequently! Once you're on Herron Island, there are no street lights, grocery stores, or restaurants, so it's perfect for an unplugged getaway.
Where to Stay on Herron Island
We stayed at this cabin on Herron Island. We were in the main cabin, and there's also a newly remodeled annex if you're bringing up to eight people. I can't rave about it enough, but the pictures speak for themselves.
The view from the deck is stunning. We'd have coffee there in the morning, and then take the stairs right down to the beach for a leisurely stroll. We saw maybe a handful of people the whole time we were there, so it was definitely a peaceful getaway.
For dinner, husband made burgers on the grill, and we ate on the deck while watching the sun set over the water. At night, I made a fire (!!!), as there is plenty of firewood provided, and we sat around the fire pit, made s'mores, and chatted under the stars.
What to Do on Herron Island
The cabin where we stayed had kayaks and paddleboards, so we rowed out and took in the clear waters and surrounding mountain views. My arms were definitely sore the next day, but I love doing activities that are so fun that it tricks me into working out haha.
If you're in the US, I hope you enjoy Memorial Day weekend! What are your plans??
